REVIEW: The Curse of Tenth Grave by Darynda Jones

SYNOPSIS: As a Part-time PI and fulltime grim reaper, Charley Davidson has asked a lot of questions throughout her life: Why can I see dead people? Who is the hot supernatural entity following me? How do I get gum out of my sister’s hair before she wakes up? But, “How do I trap not one malevolent god, but three?” was never among them. Until now. And since those gods are on earth to kill her daughter, she has little choice but to track them down, trap them, and cast them from this dimension.

There’s just one problem. One of the three stole her heart a very long time ago. Can the Razer, a god of absolute death and destruction, change his omniscient spots, or will his allegiances lie with his brothers?

Those are just a few of the questions Charley must answer, and quick. Add to that a homeless girl running for her life, an innocent man who’s been charged with murder, and a pendant made from god glass that has the entire supernatural world in an uproar, and Charley has her hands full. If she can manage to take care of the whole world-destroying-gods thing, we’re saved. If not, well…

SERIES: Charley Davidson #10

GENRE: Urban Fantasy, Paranormal, Romance

RATING: ★★★☆☆ / 3 delightful and funny stars.

REVIEW: The Charley Davidson series is one of my absolute favorites. The Curse of Tenth Grave is the, you guessed it, 10th book in the series, and a fine stepping stone to what will hopefully be a fantastic 11th book. The writing is as hilarious and steamy as ever, because no matter where the story takes us, we can always count on Darynda Jones's snappy sentences.

If you're reading this review, then you're probably already reading the series, or you stumbled across it somehow and are wondering if it's worth starting in the first place. Let me tell you that I don't continue pushing through a series if I have found it lacking. I see no reason to waste valuable reading time, so if I've made it to book 10, then you can trust that I recommend it!

That said, after the crazy strides that books 8 and 9 made, it makes sense that this one is a little slower and less volatile. It feels a little more like the first couple books, getting us back into the swing of things after the crazy changes that Charley has endured in the past couple books. So while it wasn't explosive, story wise, it was entirely satisfying. Everyone is figuring out how to live together again, and of course, there are secrets being kept and revealed.

The ending does leave us with some cliffhangers, or more like future story threads that are ongoing, and a little bit of a shock. Things are getting complicated and I'm so excited for the surprises that are in store for us readers.
