SERIES: The Game Maker Series #3

RATING: ★★★☆☆ / 3, but maybe more like 2.5, stars.

REVIEW: I wanted to like this book more than I did, really and truly. I really liked the first two books in the series and, of course, had high hopes for the third in this series, but it all just fell flat.

The story started strong, with Victoria (also known as "Vice", which I really didn't like as a nickname, but I got over it) and her family of grifters looking for marks to con for money to pay a high family debt. Sounds super interesting right? Fantastic set-up...Then she meets Dmitri and everything just happens so easily. Sure she's internally conflicted and there's obviously some secret that he's holding on to, besides what we already know from previous books, but otherwise it felt very anti-climactic. Honestly, it wasn't hard to guess what Dmitri wasn't saying.

As for the heat between the characters, like the rest of the story, it started strong but devolved from there. It started to feel like work and not like it was a natural progression.

And that's all there is to really review, which pretty much says it all. So overall, I just thought there wasn't enough to the story.
