The Literary Llama - Book Club -

WELCOME to the home of The Literary Llama Book Club!

Here you can find all the information about this fun and exciting new venture into eclectic group reading and discussions. I wanted to find an easy way to engage readers and bring bibliophiles together in an environment and on a social media platform that we already use on a daily basis. All book club discussions will take place on Instagram on my handle @theliteraryllama, at the end of each month.

Follow me on IG @theliteraryllama and be on the lookout for book club updates.

SYNOPSIS: A contemporary novel about a girl whose high school production of A Midsummer Night's Dream leads her to new friends—and maybe even new love.

The day of the last party of the summer, Claudia overhears a conversation she wasn't supposed to. Now on the wrong side of one of the meanest girls in school, Claudia doesn't know what to expect when the two are paired up to write a paper—let alone when they're both forced to try out for the school production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

But mandatory participation has its upsides—namely, an unexpected friendship, a boy band obsession, and a guy with the best dimpled smile Claudia's ever seen. As Claudia's world starts to expand, she finds that maybe there are some things worth sticking her neck out for.

The Rules & How-Tos

  • At this time there is no "official" sign-up or mailing list to join. It's very simple...If you want to be a part of the book club, then grab a copy of the book and read! Check Instagram or here for the reading schedule and dates that we will be discussing or commenting our thoughts on the book. There is no one policing your reading but you. There will be no demerits if you don't keep up nor will there be any judgment. Reading is supposed to be fun so don't let this book club stress you in any way.

  • Since this book club will also span a number of different genres (because we all like different things and because it's fun to discover new books outside your comfort zone) don't let that deter you. If you don't like a month's chosen book, feel free to skip that month and pick up again when a title interests you.

  • After our first books are chosen, I'll post a general reading schedule for the month, broken down into weeks and chapters. For instance, if a book has 20 chapters, then week one will be chapters 1-5, week two will be chapters 6-10, and so on. At the end of each week, we will comment on the chapters that were specified.

  • It's totally fine to read the book faster than the reading schedule! Just be conscious of where everyone else is in the book and don't post any spoilers.

  • It's also completely fine to read the book later in the month and only show up for the final discussion, or any of the ones in between as you get caught up. Just be aware of finding spoilers if you check in at  the wrong time.

  • If you've ever been in on a book club discussion before then you know that you can get a lot of opposing views. This is half the fun! But please remember to be courteous and respectful of other's opinions and thoughts. This is a discussion, not a battle. You can disagree and still find a proper way to express that without adding combative and inappropriate behavior or words. As moderator, I will step in if necessary.

  • As this is a discussion taking place on Instagram, make sure to direct your comments at specific people if necessary, including myself, @theliteraryllama. Or general comments can be made so that anyone may reply to you. Just instagram like you normally instagram!

  • Please try and keep on topic! Which is the book. Sometimes conversations can lead us on different tangents but don't go too far down different roads. Let's keep our discussions focused.

  • Since this is new, we'll probably figure this all out as we go along! Just remember to have fun.

If you like to take pictures of your books or yourself as you're reading, tag them with #TLLBookClub! I'd love to share pictures with everyone of all the amazing readers that are participating in The Literary Llama Book Club. It's also a way to find others who are participating and make new friends. Just remember not to post spoilers before it's time!

Happy Reading Everyone!

Love, Dayle
